Awareness at the event

We ask all participants to read the following overview of our awareness concept for the event here and to acknowledge it. Here is the short version:

We ask for considerate and respectful interaction based on the principle of consensus. Discriminatory or transgressive behavior, such as racism, anti-Semitism, sexism or trans* hostility, will not be tolerated.

We ask that all participants meet taking into account and reflecting on their own position as speakers and the space they occupy. We ask that individual people are not equated with or held responsible for supposed sides or positions in complex political conflicts. We would ask this in particular with regard to the situation in Israel-Palestine.

The awareness approach has limits! Awareness can contribute to sensitization and prevention of discrimination and violence. The focus here is clearly on supporting those affected. It should be emphasized here that awareness is by no means conceivable apart from a social critique of power . However, complex political conflicts cannot be resolved with the awareness approach. At best, those affected can be accompanied and supported in dealing with them.

We want the participants to take collective responsibility and work together to create a space that is free of discrimination and violence. We want to look out for each other and support each other. Awareness is a form of collective assumption of responsibility and not a service.

In addition, a trained awareness team is available at all times. This team is approachable and can support those affected by discrimination or violence. It works according to the principles of power of definition, victim-centeredness, impartiality and confidentiality. The awareness team is staffed by external people and is not dependent on the Awareness Initiative.

Questions, criticism, problems or debriefing concerns can be submitted before and after the event by email at lili@iniative-awareness.de.
