A look back at the anniversary
On December 2, we celebrated our 5th anniversary as the Awareness Initiative with over 60 people. At Villa Davignon in the center of Leipzig, we reviewed the last few years, looked at current projects and initiatives and discussed developments in awareness work.
Over coffee and cake in the afternoon, we visited a small exhibition on the development of our association and traced our development from voluntary work to project work. As part of individual project presentations and the panel discussion, we had the opportunity to learn more about various projects and groups such as Awer e.V., the Drugscouts and the "to be aware" project from Hamburg. At the same time, this provided us with a valuable space to discuss the perspectives of our guests on their and our awareness work. Finally, during the panel discussion on the topic of "Changing perspectives on awareness - where we come from and where we want to go", we discussed the developments in awareness work in recent years and current challenges. For example, what are the limits of awareness work? How can the political power of awareness be maintained? How can neoliberal appropriation of the concept be combated? Many questions that will keep us busy for a while yet.
The event ended with sparkling wine and delicious snacks from Vleischerei Leipzig and many tired helpers.
